Koenigsegg offers a look at crash testing regime
Carbon-fibre meets walls, potholes and rubber mallets.
Khodrocar - Watching any crash test is mesmerising, but there’s something especially compelling about seeing a Swedish wedge of carbon-fibre meet an unfortunate (but necessary) end.
To celebrate its following on social media, Koenigsegg has cut a montage of Regera crash tests.
Although it’s only a brief video, it’s clear the Regera has been through the wringer as a part of its development.
The clip shows side impacts, front and rear crashes and a serious door slamming, along with the car being enthusiastically beaten with rubber mallets.
There’s a massive ditch and steep kerb involved in the tests, too, along with a tyre wall like the one Top Gear hit in a CCX.
Although the tests weren’t fully independent – think ANCAP or Euro NCAP – the video is more than we see from plenty of other, more mainstream manufacturers.
A number of ‘benchmark’ sports cars, including the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz SL, never make it into the hands of independent testers, because it’s too expensive for NCAP authorities to buy three vehicles for front, side and offset testing.
The Ford Mustang was a part of that list, too, but its immense popularity forced Euro NCAP to put one through its paces. And we all know how that ended up.
