Vauxhall unveils 257bhp Insignia GSi model
Performance-based Vauxhall Insignia GSi expected to arrive in the UK in 2018.
Vauxhall has introduced a new 257bhp GSi model to the Insignia range featuring chassis tweaks and four-wheel drive. It will debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The performance-based Insignia has been developed at the Nürburgring in Germany, Vauxhall says. To mark it out from the rest of the range the GSi features a subtle body kit with silver accents on the front bumper, twin exhaust pipes and optional 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres.
Under the bonnet sits a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, which develops 257bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, while Vauxhall will launch a diesel version of the GSi at a later date.
Power is put down through a four-wheel drive system, which features a torque-vectoring system on the rear axle. It is able to accelerate each rear wheel individually to boost traction when cornering.
A unique suspension set-up has been added, comprising 10mm shorter springs and specially developed shock absorbers to reduce body roll. Brembo brakes have also been added.
