Khodrocar - After teasing its upcoming performance SUV a few months ago, Rezvani Motors now confirms that the model carries the Tank moniker and packs an optional 6.4-liter V8 pumping out 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts). The wait for more details won’t be long because the California-based boutique automaker will unveil additional info about the new model in the coming days.
Company CEO Ferris Rezvani has revealed both of the Tank's engine options to Motor1. The standard mill is a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower (213 kilowatts) and 260 pound-feet (353 Newton-meters). Buyers can also upgrade to the 500-hp 6.4-liter V8 with 430 lb-ft (583 Nm) of torque. An even more powerful mill will join the lineup in 2018. On-demand four-wheel drive will be a standard feature across the lineup.
Rezvani Automotive reports that the Tank takes inspiration from military vehicles, including offering options like a thermal camera for operating at night and armored body panels. The exterior’s boxy aesthetic evokes comparisons to classic off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler, Land Rover Defender, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and older variants of the Toyota Land Cruiser.
The company promises that the model has no problem operating off the asphalt thanks to a body-on-frame chassis, meaty all-terrain tires, and "a world-class suspension system.” There’s no information about the cabin yet other than there being room for five occupants.
There are still lots of mysteries about the Tank that we are curious to know more about. For example, it appears to use a front-mounted engine with a heavily vented hood, but there’s a scoop in the roof. There are no details yet about where this aggressive design detail might route the air.
Rezvani expects to deliver the first units of the Tank to customers before the end of the year. The company is already taking $1,000 refundable deposits for them and intends to announce more details about the vehicle quite soon.
