Next-Gen Mercedes-AMG A45 Spied Looking Smooth And Sporty

It would reportedly pack over 400 horsepower from its turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Khodrocar - The Mercedes-AMG A45 remains a seriously hot hatchbacks around with 375 horsepower (280 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and a new batch of spy photos provide a glimpse of the next generation of the high-performance model.

The new A45 features a very low nose that slopes downward at the tip. Narrow, headlights squint out the front, and the nose appears quite round. Ignore the crisscross pattern of the grille cladding because earlier spy photos show the vehicle with a more Mercedes-like design.

In profile, this test mule appears larger than the current A-Class, which fits with other reports about the next-generation model. From the rear three-quarters perspective, the bulging front and rear fenders are most evident, and the components should allow Mercedes to fit even larger wheels than on the standard models.

This test mule looks only partially finished at the back. A nicely integrated spoiler integrates into the roof, and the shape of the taillights echos the illumination at the front. It appears that there should be a diffuser at the rear, though. The small-diameter exhaust pipes also seem too tiny for the cutouts in the bumper.

These shots don’t let us see inside, but earlier photos reveal the interior of a test mule. It’s quite a high-tech place with a pair of screens on the dashboard. The trim looks high quality, and the lack of a traditional center stack makes the vehicle appear special on the inside.

AMG boss Tobias Moers says that model produces at least at least 402 horsepower (300 kilowatts) and could be available in two tunes. The standard version would continue to use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A more powerful variant later would feature a 48-volt electrical system and electric turbo. Both variants would use a nine-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The new A-Class should arrive in 2018, but the A45 might not be available at launch. The hot hatch could arrive in the latter part of that year or possibly even in 2019.
