Khodrocar - commercial and heavy vehicle contain 23 percent of automotive fleet in Tehran and other big cities and their number is near 203 thousand units. Marzie Hesary, Chairman of public transportation of municipality said that till the 1400 near 80 percent of busses will be worn out.
Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization with the support of the government and some other organizations made a plan to renovate 203 thousand heavy vehicles during 3 years which the first phase should be started in July 2018. Alongside this plan scrap yards were responsible to worn out cars.
Also, the government said they will allocate 10 billion dollar budget to this plan. It was planned to sell the commercial vehicles with 30 percent facility for the customers. However, the renovation plan which planned to start in the beginning of the July has not started yet.
"Right now, due to the importation limits, no one buys scrapping certificate anymore and commercial vehicles are not worn out. If the certificates enter the market then the market would be saturated which will hurt different organizations.” Mehdi Nikdar, President of transportation and fuel organization told Khodrocar reporter.
"In the current situation, it has been announced to us to shut down the heavy vehicles’ scrap yards and stop to worn out them but we are trying to solve the problem here. Right now, only heavy vehicles which have the intelligent card can take the scrap certificate and the others can’t because after importation ban there is no need for scrapping vehicles.” He added.
"Right now, we are working on this matter and next week we will have meeting about the future of this centers.” He continued.
It seems that, weather the government and other organizations are ready to launch the plan but instability of economy and vehicle importation ban had great impact on this 3 years plan.
The other matter is, people’s buying power has been decreased due to the exchange fluctuation and in this condition with economy stagnation it isn’t logical to renovate the fleet. Now the most important question is, in the best situation after scrap yards reopening and vehicle importation vanish, do the customers have the power to renovate their vehicle?
