Opel Astra facelift spied

Prototype could preview upcoming changes for Holden-badged hatch.

Khodrocar - A development prototype believed to be an upcoming facelift for the Opel Astra has been spied in Europe during hot weather testing.

Black camouflage conceals the front bumper and grille, suggesting the most noticeable changes will be in these areas, and it looks like the headlights may get revisions too.

Other changes could occur under the skin, in the form of a revised engine range including motors from new French parent PSA, though the company may wait until its next-generation small car to implement this change.

The updated hatchback should see some minor revisions to the cabin, too, likely including new trims and upholstery. We're guessing the new infotainment system announced for the larger Insignia could also become available as an option.

Reports also speculate there could be upgrades in store for the Astra's driver assistance systems. But for now we'll have to sit tight until the official announcement.

In terms of timing, the updated Opel Astra could be on track for debut towards the end of the year – potentially at the Paris motor show in October.
