Why Automakers are Exempt from Scrapping Vehicles?
The government’s decision about launching the clear air law requires the cooperation of automakers, importers and car scrapping centers. There are 2.5 million cars waiting in the queue to be scrapped and all organizations should work together because none of them are able to renovate the car fleet lonely.
Khodrocar – according to the establishment of clear air law, about 2 million cars must be scrapped and not only local auto makers, but vehicle and part importers should cooperate to renovate the entire car fleet as soon as possible.
However, automakers are exempt to scrap worn out vehicles and the responsibility of this job is on the shoulders of importers. Importers are struggling with different problems such as exchange rate turbulence, unclear condition of order registration website and conditions of importing some vehicles, but now, they also must think about worn out cars and scrapping the 2.5 million worn out cars which are waiting in the queue. Meanwhile, automakers, which produce near 1.2 million cars annually are exempt from this job.
Now, the parliament approved a new law about worn out cars. This law says, "The custom of Iran has been obliged to scrap a worn out vehicle for every 20 thousand dollars of vehicle parts importation.”
"The parliament’s recent approval about worn out cars is important because the responsibility of scrapping vehicles should be shared among all sections.” Said Mostafa Joudi, Chairman of the Board of Iran’s Recycling and Scrappage Guild to Khodrocar reporter. "A billion dollars of vehicle parts imports annually, so this section should help the government and the private sector about scrapping vehicles.”
"It seems that the new instruction of the parliament would speed up the scrapping of worn out cars and support the importers. We hope to see the automakers join the importers and auto part importers to scrap worn out cars.” He added. "There are many requests for the obligation of domestic automakers to take responsibility for leaving the worn out vehicle.”
The parliament’s members approved that auto part importers could receive a scrapping certification. According to the instruction, in order to speed up the scrapping worn out vehicles, reduce the air pollution and supporting local production, the custom of Iran has been obliged to scrap a worn out vehicle for every 20 thousand dollars of vehicle parts importation.
