A New German Rival Enters the Ring: Audi Q4 40 e-tron Launches in Iran via "Nadin Khodro"

BMW iX1 and Mercedes-Benz EQB face fresh competition.

Iranian Audi specialist “Nadin Khodro,” the exclusive distributor of Audi vehicles in the country, continues to expand its all-electric product lineup. Following the successful debut of the Audi Q4 50 e-tron quattro earlier this year in April, the company now introduces the Audi Q4 40 e-tron, marking its second step in rolling out the brand’s electric portfolio.

From a design perspective, the Q4 40 e-tron is virtually identical to its more powerful sibling, the Q4 50 e-tron quattro. The only notable exterior difference lies in the wheels: the Q4 40 comes equipped with 20-inch rims, compared to the 21-inch wheels found on the Q4 50. This choice actually benefits local buyers, as the smaller wheels are better suited to Iran's often uneven road surfaces, offering a smoother and more forgiving ride.

Feature-wise, the Q4 40 e-tron closely mirrors the Q4 50, retaining more than 90% of its advanced comfort and safety features. These include active lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, speed alert radar, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and L2 autonomous driving technology. A full suite of driver aids and convenience technologies also come standard, such as a 360-degree camera, four selectable drive modes (Sport, Eco, Comfort, Standard), and more.

Under the hood, the Q4 40 e-tron is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 204 horsepower (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque—the same powertrain found in the widely sold Audi Q5 40 e-tron. However, thanks to a lighter body, the Q4 40 delivers quicker acceleration, beating the Q5 40’s 0–100 km/h time by over half a second.

Despite sharing the same drivetrain, the Q4 40 e-tron boasts an impressive maximum driving range of up to 605 kilometers, courtesy of its lower weight and optimized efficiency. Charging times are also competitive, with a full charge requiring up to 12 hours, and just 41 minutes using fast-charging infrastructure.

The vehicle features a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup, 20-inch wheels with 235-width front tires and 255-width rears, and an extensive list of high-end amenities. Highlights include battery pre-conditioning for cold weather, remote start functionality, active front grille shutters, full LED headlights, customizable ambient lighting in 30 colors, a panoramic sunroof, premium full-leather sport seats with electric adjustment, heating, and memory, voice command support, auto-parking, and dozens of other smart features.

With the arrival of the Q4 40 e-tron, the competitive landscape of the German electric crossover market in Iran now forms a complete triangle: BMW iX1, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and Audi Q4 40 e-tron.

On paper, the Q4 40 e-tron already appears to outshine its rivals. Compared to the Mercedes-Benz EQB, it offers significantly more power and a richer set of features. Against the BMW iX1, it brings a larger footprint and a more premium tech package. This head-to-head competition among the German electric trio is expected to spark keen interest among local EV enthusiasts.

Nadin Khodro is expected to officially begin sales of the Audi Q4 40 e-tron in the coming weeks, giving Audi fans in Iran access to one of the most technologically advanced and well-rounded electric crossovers on the market today.
