Volvo XC60 Was Euro NCAP's Safest Car Overall Tested In 2017

KhodroCar - With almost 70 cars tested, 2017 was by far the busiest year for the European New Car Assessment Programme. One model managed to stand out from the pack and that was the second-generation XC60, which was crowned as the safest car overall. Volvos are known to be among the safest cars in the automotive industry and the new XC60 is no exception after scoring 98% in the Adult Occupant category and 95% in terms of Safety Assist.

Volvo Cars Safety Center’s Vice President, Malin Ekholm, has made the promise that "by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car” and these crash test results are showing the company is on the right track.

Volvo is actually the first automaker to claim top spot in Euro NCAP’s three Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) tests (city, inter-urban, pedestrian) in which the XC60, S90, and the V90 have excelled by getting perfect scores. Since we mentioned the sedan and wagon, the duo got a 95% rating in the Adult Occupant category and 93% in the Safety Assist category.

In related news, Euro NCAP has released this week a list with the Best in Class Cars of 2017. Needless to say, the Volvo XC60 is the main star on that list, which also includes three Volkswagens (Polo, T-Roc, Arteon), two Subarus (Impreza, XV), and the Opel/Vauxhall Crossland X.

But 2017 wasn’t all about five-star cars (like the Stinger, F-Pace, Yaris, Kona, 6 Series GT) as it also marked an unwanted premiere: the first zero-star car. Launched in 2005, the Fiat Punto received five stars back in the day, but Euro NCAP’s tests are considerably more stringent now, and with the supermini not being renewed during this 12-year interval, it has lost all five stars.
