Khodrocar reports, Announced by German transport minister, Alexander Dobrindt, the move involves the registration ban of the 3.0-litre V6 Cayenne Diesel, which shares its engine with various members of the Volkswagen Group, including the related Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg, along with the Audi A4, A6, A8, and Q5.
Germany’s KBA (Kraftfahrtbundesamt) recently discovered during testing that both the Cayenne Diesel and Macan S Diesel are fitted with software that manipulates emissions by switching to a ‘warm up strategy’ mode which provides a lower rating when it detects emissions testing on a rolling road.
In addition to the immediate ban on registering new Cayenne Diesels in Germany, the KBA has ordered the recall of up to 22,000 vehicles already sold in Europe.
A statement from Porsche reads:
"Porsche has detected irregularities in the engine control software during internal investigations and has actively pointed this out to the Kraftfahrtbundesamt (KBA), German Federal Motor Transport Authority.
"The irregularities are not related to the transmission control software. Corrections by means of a software update within the scope of a recall were agreed with the authority.
"Regardless of the recall, Porsche continues to carry out internal audits on its vehicles and derive optimisations from them. Furthermore, the company is still in close contact with the authorities, in particular the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, on all current matters.”
This latest development comes after the KBA demanded sister company Audi recall 2010-2013 model-year A7 and A8 models equipped with V6 and V8 TDI turbo-diesel engines in June.
Porsche was reported to also be under investigation at the time, though the company was initially denying the allegations.
Australia
Paul Ellis, director of public relations and motorsport for Porsche Cars Australia (PCA), told CarAdvice that the local arm is yet to hear of any local impact.
While the Volkswagen Group has recalled various diesel models across the Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda brands, the 3.0-litre V6 diesel used by the Cayenne, Q7 and Touareg is yet to be affected by a local notice.
