Hongqi HS3 PHEV enters market at 22,500 USD

Khodrocar - On September 4, Hongqi launched its HS3 PHEV SUV, priced at 159,800 yuan (22,500 USD). The new car is based on the gasoline-powered variant of the HS3, powered by a 1.5T plug-in hybrid power system. For reference, the price range of the 2024 Hongqi HS3 gasoline-powered variant on sale is 145,800 – 172,800 yuan (20,500 – 24,300 USD).

The front face adopts the Hongqi family design language, with a large vertical waterfall grille decorated with thin strips of chrome and the chrome grille frames on both sides are thick. The vertical Hongqi logo extends from the hood to the grille, making it highly recognizable. The headlights use a split design while the daytime running lights adopt a C-shaped design.

The size remains unchanged, measuring 4655/1900/1668 mm, and the wheelbase is 2770 mm, positioned as a compact SUV. Consumers can choose from six paint options: Phantom Night Black, Alpine White, Art Gray, Alpine White + Smoked Roof, Yubai Green + Smoked Roof, and Bamboo Moon Blue + Smoked Roof.

The interior layout remains consistent, featuring a 12.6-inch central control screen and a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel. In addition to the black color scheme, the interior offers a light blue color that is exclusive to the plug-in hybrid variant.

The cockpit is powered by Hongqi’s self-developed Qisi 1.0 intelligent network connection system that supports OTA updates. The car also has a 253-color ambient lighting system, 40W + 15W dual-sided mobile phone wireless charging panels, 6-way electric adjustment for the driver seat, 4-way electric adjustment for the co-pilot, front seat heating/ventilation, rear seat angle adjustment, rear center armrest + cup holder, and a sensor trunk. Specifically, the front seat ventilation and sensor trunk are unique to the plug-in hybrid variant.

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.5T engine and an electric motor. The maximum power of the 1.5T engine is 124 kW (166 hp) and the peak torque is 258 Nm (same as the gasoline-powered variant) while the electric motor outputs 140 kW (188 hp) and 280 Nm. Its 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CATL provides an official pure electric range of 115 km (assuming CLTC) and the comprehensive range is 1,100 km under a full fuel tank + full charge. A 3.3 kW external discharge function is also supported.

In July 2024, the sales volume of the Hongqi HS3 was 2,668 units, accounting for 8.67% of Hongqi’s sales and ranking 83rd in the Chinese SUV sales. Will the launch of the PHEV variant boost Hongqi HS3’s sales?
