In a situation where the first shipment of imported cars has been delivered to the customers, the Ministry of Industry intends to justify the import of these cars by revising the import tariff of cars less than 1500 cc, which have a high share in economic cars, and the increase the willingness of importers to import this category of cars.

The 10-75% tariff increase depending on the size of the engine was a decision that the Cabinet of Ministers took to show that it was looking for high revenue generation from the place of car imports, and this decision definitely harms the import of economic cars, which was the main goal of the government. 

According to the government's decision, the tariff for cars with an engine volume of less than 1,000 cc was changed from 6% to 16%, which resulted in an increase of 10%.

The import tariff for cars with an engine volume of 1000 to 1500 cc was also increased from 15% to 66%, which will include most imported cars.

At the same time, the tariff for cars with an engine volume of 1500 to 2000 cc was also increased from 71% to 91%.

Since the importation of cars above 2000 cc was banned in the government's new decision, the tariff for cars with an engine volume of 2000 to 2500 cc will be increased from 91% to 131%. that the import of this category of cars has been freed, which shortly after the publication of this news, the government denied it and emphasized that cars above 2000 cc are not going to be imported into the country, and the main purpose of reopening imports is the entry of cheap and economical cars, which, of course, Also, with this amount of tariff increase, it went to the sidelines.

Currently, the import tariff for $10,000 and $100,000 cars is the same, because the size of the engine will determine the amount of the tariff. It will not have a million tomans and cannot be assigned an economic attribute. Meanwhile, if the tariff is measured in terms of car prices, companies will be more willing to import, and on the other hand, the effect of injected cars in the market will be more tangible and noticeable.

Based on this, the parliament announced its agreement with changing the car import tariff and escalating it. Meanwhile, in the latest incident, Mehdi Zaighmi, the head of the trade development organization and the manager of the car import project, announced and emphasized the new and proposed tariffs of the Ministry of Industry for the import of cars, considering that most economic cars have an engine volume of less than 1500 cc. We have proposed to reduce the import tariff of these cars from 70% to 55%. Also, in line with supporting clean cars, the tariff for hybrid cars will be 16%, the tariff for plug-in hybrid cars will be 6%, and the tariff for all-electric cars will be 0%.

Now, we have to see if the proposal of the Ministry of Industry to reduce tariffs will finally be approved by the Cabinet or not? Undoubtedly, if you do not agree with this proposal, the liberalization of car imports will only be an advertising show for the government and will not help the market and consumers, because the price of billions of economic cars will not be affordable for everyone!
