Khodrocar – SUV segment became one of the most popular classes in Iran in a way that currently, many brands and models exist in the roads and streets. During the earlier decades, these class of cars were counted as "off-road” vehicles but with the reduction of their fuel consumption and prices, these vehicles entered the cities and streets.
One of the important factors is their low fuel consumption and availability. Particularly, the Chinese automotive industry, with its well-priced equipped SUVs, has had a significant impact on the sales prosperity of the bulky cars to the markets of Asia and our country.
In the first half of this year, SUVs had 34 percent of car sale’ share globally. Compared to the last year, the share of SUVs sales increased by 14 percent and reached 15 million vehicles. 57.2 percent of this shares belongs to C-SUVs, 35.2 percent goes to D-SUVs and 5 percent for B-SUVs.
In the second Tehran’s International Autoshow, the presence of SUVs in every automakers booth was remarkable and that shows the popularity of these vehicles.
What attracted the attention of everyone at the exhibition was the presence of Chinese, Indians, French and Taiwanese with a good variety of cars including SUVs. But with the "Ban of Vehicle Imports” huge percent of them are not going to be imported anymore.
Chinese SUVs: The Most Divers
One of the main reasons for the boom of CUVs and SUVs is the investment of Chinese companies to assemble this class of vehicle inside our country. Their vehicles have good prices and acceptable volume of technology. JAC, Lifan, Chery, BYD, Brilliance, Dongfeng, Haval, Haima, Changan and Foton are domesticly produced brands. Mahindra, Bisu and BAIC are three other that are going to join them soon.

SUV’s Situation after the Vehicle Import Ban
Brands like Renualt, Toyota, Nissan, DS, Luxgen, VW, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mitsubishi, Volvo, SsangYong, Borgward, Jaguar-Land Rover and many other companies are not allowed to import their vehicle to Iran anymore due to the ban of vehicle imports.
