BMW RECALLS 300,000 VEHICLES IN THE UK OVER STALLING ISSUE

BMW has expanded a safety recall in the UK, issuing a notice for around 312,000 examples of its previous-generation 1 Series, 3 Series, X1 and Z4 over concerns vehicles could suddenly stall without warning.
Khodrocar -Affected units were produced between March 2007 and August 2011, and the recall concerns both petrol and diesel variants where applicable.
While the issue hasn't caused a direct fatality , someone in the UK was killed on Christmas Day in 2016 after crashing into a tree trying to avoid a broken-down BMW in Guildford, Surrey.
The BMW had suffered an electrical fault, causing the tail-lights to fail and resulting in the vehicle stalling on a dark A-road – the term used for main roads in the UK.
Initially, the Bavarian manufacturer issued a recall for 36,410 petrol models in the UK last year over the fault.
Similar notices have been issued in the past, including the global recall affecting 750,000 units in 2013 due to defective battery cables – 17,500 of those units were sold in Australia, too.

Australia
Speaking with CarAdvice, BMW's local division was unable to confirm whether the latest recall impacts Australian-delivered models, though did issue the following statement:
"BMW Group has launched a safety recall relating to certain models of the previous generation of BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, X1 and Z4 built between March 2007 and September 2011 inclusive.
The issue relates to the plug of the power distributer which may degrade over time due to frictional corrosion and vehicle vibration. In certain conditions this can affect the electrical connection to the car and may result in a loss of power."
